Mechanical Behaviour of Metallic Yielding Dampers with Different Aspect Ratios

Yielding shear plates have been widely used in metallic dampers as the primary source of energy dissipation. This study investigated behavior yielding with different aspect ratios when subjected to a gradually increasing lateral load. Five links thickness 1mm and ranging from 1.0 1.5 were constructed tested. The force-displacement relationships idealized represented by bilinear curves. obtained results indicated that square had larger displacement ductility ratio, initial effective stiffness compared rectangular links.
